UCHS softball team falls in 10-0 hole in 13-3 loss to Trenton

Visiting Trenton hit a grand slam as part of a seven-run third inning in handing the Union County High School softball team a 13-3, five-inning loss on April 7.

The Tigers (3-11) trailed 10-0 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. Union loaded the bases with Maggie Thomas getting hit by a pitch and Hannah Rivera and Tamia Young hitting back-to-back singles. Mackenzie Orton hit a bases-clearing double with two outs, giving the Tigers their only runs.

Orton’s double was one of just four hits for the Tigers.

On April 6, Union traveled to Williston, losing 6-2.

Williston scored all of its runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two triples, two doubles and two errors.

Angela Tucker, who when 2 for 3, hit a two-out solo home run in the third. She and Leah Clark, who went 2 for 4, had the Tigers’ only hits.

Shyla Crowe pitched 5.1 innings of relief, giving up no runs, three hits and one walk.

Union hosts Chiefland on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. and will travel to play Fort White on Thursday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m.
