Leah Clark and Angela Tucker each drove in three runs as the Union County High School softball team remained undefeated with a 15-0, three-inning win over host Newberry on March 14.
The Tigers (7-0) scored all the runs they’d need in a seven-run first inning. Maggie Thomas hit a two-run single, while Tucker and Hailey Rivera were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Tamia Young drew a bases-loaded walk, while another two runs scored on an error.
Clark stepped to bat in the second with the bases loaded and hit a double that scored all three runners. Rivera and Tucker each had an RBI single in the second as well.
Union scored three in the third inning, with Tucker (who was 2 for 2) and Young each hitting run-scoring singles, while Mackenzie Radford scored on a steal of home.
Pitchers Shyla Crowe and Lily Neal combined to give up just four hits.
On March 8, Tucker hit a two-run double as part of a three-run sixth inning to help the Tigers defeat host Santa Fe 4-2 on March 8.
It was a scoreless game entering the sixth when Hayley Burke and MacKenzie Orton reached on a single and a walk, respectively. Both scored on the hit by Tucker, who would come around and score later on a single by Young.
Burke, who went 2 for 4, hit a run-scoring triple in the seventh.
Megan Sullivan pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out eight.
Union travels for 7 p.m. games against Williston on Thursday, March 17, and Buchholz on Friday, March 18.
