Union County High School swept second seed Lafayette 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15) in the Oct. 14 District 6-Rural tournament semifinals, advancing the third seed Tigers to the Thursday, Oct. 16, championship match against top seed Branford at UCHS at 7 p.m.
It’s a repeat scenario up to this point, as the Tigers (20-7) defeated second seed Lafayette in last year’s district semifinals as well to set up a championship match with top seed Branford. Union hopes that’s where the similarities end since Branford won last year’s district championship.
As was also the case last year, Branford (19-4) is not only the district’s top seed, but the number-one team in the Rural Class as a whole.
