UCHS wins 6th straight to end regular season

Union County High School’s volleyball team defeated host Bell 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-23) on Oct. 9 to end the regular season.

The Tigers (18-7), who are on a six-match winning streak, hosted Bell on Sept. 30, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-23). Jailyn Simmons and Mallory Waugh had 14 and 11 kills, respectively, and finished with two blocks each. Waugh also had 16 assists and five digs.

Abby Williams led the Tigers in assists with 17, while also recording six digs.

Morgan Smith and Indi Knox had nine and seven kills, respectively, while Bella Johns had 10 digs.

Bayle Staier recorded three service aces.

Union hosted Dixie County on Oct. 6, winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-19). Simmons had nine kills, seven blocks, seven digs and four aces, while Knox had six kills, six digs and three blocks.

Waugh and Williams recorded 14 and 12 assists, respectively, with Waugh also getting seven digs, five kills and three aces. Williams had five digs.

Johns led the team in digs with 18, while Staier had eight. Knox and Smith each had six digs, with Knox also recording six kills and three blocks.

In a 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-13, 25-22) win over visiting Baker County on Oct. 7, Simmons reached the 1,000 career mark in kills, while Johns recorded her 1,000th career dig.

The Tigers will host a District 6-Rural tournament quarterfinal match versus Taylor County on Monday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. Union is the tournament’s third seed, while Taylor (8-13) is the sixth seed.
