LAKE BUTLER — The Union County Board of County Commissioners had a new member at its Nov. 22, 2022 with Commissioner Mac Johns taking over the District 4 seat, which he was elected to in November (the delay caused by the need for him to be sworn in as an elected official before assuming his new role).
Also at that meeting the board conducted its usual annual business of electing a board chairman and vice-chairman for the coming year and assigning various commissioners to serve as representatives of the county on several boards and committees that the county is a member of.
Ryan Perez (District 1) was elected to serve for the next year as board chairman, with Channing Dobbs (District 2) elected to serve as vice-chair.
Commissioners discussed the committee assignments, often asking to remain in a position they had held or to take on a new position in which they had an interest. The assignments are as follows:
Florida Crown Workforce – Mac Johns.
Transportation Disadvantage Board – Jimmy Tallman.
North Florida Regional Planning Council – Jimmy Tallman.
New River Tri-County Library/Landfill – Jimmy Tallman and Channing Dobbs.
New River Public Library Cooperative – Jimmy Tallman and Channing Dobbs.
Union County Public Library – Willie Croft and Mac Johns.
SREC/Suwannee River Economic Council (a one-year term to begin in March 2023) – Willie Croft and Mac Johns.
S.H.I.P. (New construction and rehabilitation) – Ryan Perez and Mac Johns.
North Florida Economic Development Partnership – Ryan Perez and County Coordinator Jimmy Williams.
Small County Coalition – Ryan Perez.
One or both (when two are named) commissioners will attend meetings of their assigned boards, representing Union County’s interests, and reporting back to the BOCC as to matters pertinent to the county that come up in the discussions.
