Union Co. boys defeat Crescent City 61-44 for 3rd straight win

Thomas Williams and Gavin Jenkins scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, as the Union County High School boys basketball team won its third straight game, defeating visiting Crescent City 61-44 on Jan. 21.

The Tigers (11-9) got a huge third quarter from Johnte’ Nichols, who scored 10 points and finished with 12. He sank a three-pointer between halfcourt and the arc at the buzzer to send Union into the fourth quarter leading 47-35.

Jenkins scored eight points in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers also got eight points from Cole Andersen-Davis, five points from Dee Williams, three points from Deonte Jones and two points from Jayden Jenkins.

Before their winning streak began, the Tigers lost 37-32 at Trenton on Jan. 14. Gavin Jenkins had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Dee Williams had nine points and six rebounds. Andersen-Davis, Jones and Thomas Williams scored four points each.

On Jan. 17, four players scored in double figures in a 57-32 win over visiting Bell.

Thomas Williams and Gavin Jenkins scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Andersen-Davis and Jayden Jenkins each had 10 points. Andersen-Davis and Williams had five and four steals, respectively, with each also grabbing five rebounds. Jenkins had three assists.

Dee Williams and Nichols scored six and five points, respectively. Williams also had five rebounds and four steals, while Nichols had three steals.

Kam Paytee, Jayce Puni and Auntrell Ross each had one point, with Puni also grabbing five rebounds.

Dee Williams posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a 57-36 win at Dixie County on Jan. 19.

The Tigers also got a team-high 15 points from Thomas Williams, nine points from Jones, eight points from Gavin Jenkins, six points from Andersen-Davis, five points from Nichols and three points from Jayden Jenkins.

Nichols and Dee Williams each had three steals, while Jayden Jenkins had six rebounds.

Gavin Jenkins and Thomas Williams had five and three assists, respectively.

Union hosts Middleburg on Monday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. and will host Interlachen on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers then close the regular season with an 8 p.m. home game against Branford on Friday, Feb. 3.
