Union County High School students outperformed their state counterparts in every subject except for 10th-grade English language arts and algebra for the 2023-2024 fall semester, according to the district’s schoolwide improvement plan for the South Lake Avenue campus.

Union County students scored five percent or less better than the statewide average for ninth-grade English, biology, algebra, geometry, and history.

However, 10th-grade English lagged the state average by 5%, and for the 2023-2024 fall term, the school’s algebra scores were 17% below the state average.

The district said in the report that state support fell during the 2023-2024 fall term, forcing the school to get by with one less algebra instructor.

The district said in the report that student attendance was one of its areas of most significant concern.

It added that it intended to focus on math learning gains, English learning gains, teacher recruitment and retention, and acceleration in the 2024-2025 school year.
