Union County pays tribute to its fallen veterans

 American Legion Post 153 leaders remembered Union County residents who gave their lives for their country during a May 26 ceremony at Lake Butler’s Masonic Lodge.

Post Adjutant Brian Reagan welcomed the crowd of around 80 to the event, and Post Chaplain Gene Gordon delivered the invocation. Boy Scout Troop 140 and Cub Scout Pack 140 led the Pledge of Allegiance and the parade of services, marching with flags of each armed military service.

The Union County High School JROTC color guard raised the flag to half-staff and presented the colors later in the ceremony.

Post 153 Commander Mitchell Bishop read the names of each Union County service member killed in the line of duty, and Post Vice Commander Shawn Newsom placed a wreath at the memorial facing Main Street.
