Union County’s Alicia Maxwell and Doris Thomas leads a group of seniors who are determined to stay active.

“It’s an organization that’s for people who are 60 and older,: Maxwell said during a recent community meeting in Lake Butler.  “We call it meet, breathe, and eat. We meet every third Wednesday of each month at the housing authority”.

Senior Citizens on the Move also educates seniors about topics like Medicare, Medicaid, elderly abuse, and resources available to seniors.

Maxwell said she is also involved with the Consolidated High School Alumni Association, which was the black school that used to be at the site of the current Lake Butler Elementary.

“And one of our ways of giving back is we partnered with the school of helping them with their mentorship program, where we provided snacks, and an award ceremony,” she said.
