Union County High School got two first-place finishes from Emma Jeffers in coming out on top as the top girls team at a Feb. 27 Chiefland High School track and field meet.
The Tigers compiled 93 points, which put them 39 points ahead of Chiefland and Trenton. Hamilton County and Newberry had 22 and 19 points, respectively.
Jeffers won the 800m with a time of three minutes, while also taking first in the 1600m with a time of 6:38.
Taleyah Smith and Savanah Thompson won events as well, with Smith throwing the discus 18.53 meters and Thompson crossing the line in the 3220m in 18:45.
The 4x100m relay team of Amia Bethea, Holly Halfacre, Ny’asia Jones and Smith also placed first with a time of 57 seconds.
As an individual, Halfacre earned points in three events. She took second in the 400m with a time of 1:14, third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 22.21 and fifth in the long jump with a distance of 3.67 meters.
Kaitlyn Pafford and Rachel Harris each earned points in two events. Pafford was the runner-up in the 800m and 1600m with times of 3:06 and 6:52, while Harris was fourth in each of those events with times of 3:10 and 7:03.
The 4x400m team of Aliyah Smith, Taliyah Harper, Jeanette Allen and Jeffers ran a second-place time of 5:05, while Jones took second in the 200m with a time of 30.06.
Brianna Taylor, Layla Alexander, Ivy Wilson and Hayden Robinson ran a third-place time of 1:01 in the 4x100m relay. The Tigers also got third-place finishes from Bethea in the 100m (13.98), Wilson in the 200m (30.32) and Isabelle Kirsten in the 400m (1:19).
Union also got points in the 400m from Aliyah Smith, who was fourth (1:20).
Though they didn’t earn points, the following also placed in the top 10: Harper sixth in the 100m hurdles (23.13) and seventh in the long jump (3.17), Jessa Dekle sixth in the 400m (1:21), Jones eighth in the 100m (14.87), Allen eighth in the 400m (1:22), Jones eighth in the 100m (14.87), Stacy Parks eighth in the 1600m (8:23), Alexander ninth in the 200m (31.77), Thompson ninth in the 1600m (8:23), Deashia Gainer ninth in the discus (14.9) and Halfacre 10th in the 100m (14.91).
