Union’s Baynard, Williams to compete at state weightlifting meet

Union County High School weightlifters Tucker Baynard and Thomas Williams will join teammates Quinn Raulerson and Christian Simmons at the Class 1A state finals, which will be held Saturday, April 23, at Port St. Joe High School.

Raulerson (183-pound class) and Simmons (119) earned automatic bids in the traditional event (bench press and clean and jerk) by winning their weight classes at the Region 2 finals. Simmons also earned an automatic berth by winning his class in the snatch.

Baynard (unlimited) and Williams (183), who each placed fifth in the traditional event at the Region 2 meet, earned at-large bids.

Raulerson received an at-large berth to compete in the snatch. He was the Region 2 runner-up in his weight class.
