Union’s Elixson, KHHS team qualify for girls golf regionals

Union’s Zoe Elixson qualified for the Region 1-1A golf finals after her third-place performance at the Oct. 24 District 3 tournament.

Union County High School’s Zoe Elixson placed third and qualified for the Region 1-1A girls golf finals at the Oct. 24 District 3 tournament, which was held at Quail Heights Country Club in Lake City.

Keystone Heights High School qualified as a team for the Region 1 finals, which will be held Monday, Oct. 30, at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

The top three teams earned the right to advance. Keystone was guaranteed a region spot due to the fact the District 3 tournament consisted of only three full teams.

Also earning the right to advance were the top three individuals not on one of the top three teams. Elixson, who had a birdie and made par on four holes, shot a 98 (18 holes), which was the second-lowest score among individuals not on the top three teams. She finished behind St. Joseph’s Danielle Dailey, who was the champion with a score of 79, and Branford’s Claire Bond, who had a score of 94.

Elixson bettered her score from last season by 12 strokes.

Keystone finished third in the team standings with a score of 591. Branford was the champion with a score of 449, while Taylor County finished 47 strokes behind the Buccaneers to be the runner-up.

The Indians were led by Amber Cunningham, who finished tied for seventh with a score of 121, while her teammates shot the following scores: Aubrey Brooks 132, Ashylnn Duncan 168 and Jasmine Walls 170.

Kaylee Devore was Bradford’s lone participant. She had an 11th-place score of 126. She made par on one hole.
