GREEN COVE SPRINGS— Clay County’s Supervisor of elections said a mail campaign sent to residents urging them to register to vote are being sent to people who are already registered, children and even pets.
Chris Chambless said the mailings originate from the Voter Participation Center and the Center of Voter Information.
Chambless said both organizations use commercially available databases which may not reflect what the elections office actually has on file.
“These unverified sources have resulted in letters sent to currently registered voters, deceased individuals, minor children and even pets, causing confusion and undermining the public’s trust in the elections process,” he said.
Chambless said all voters can verify their registration status on the Supervisor of Elections website.
