Lake Butler City Manager Kim Hayes said the developer of a Wawa Convenience store hopes to break ground in May.

Pritchett, Inc. and the Marvin H. Pritchett Family Trust own the two parcels on which the store will be located. They total nearly two acres and are on the northwest corner of Southwest 6th Street and 6th Avenue, across the avenue from Circle K and across 6th Street from Tiger’s Den daycare.

Hayes said the developer applied to the city in December for approval of the site plan and development. She forwarded the application to the North Florida Regional Planning Council, which handles building matters for the municipality.

The Philadelphia-area-based chain entered Florida in 2012 in Orlando and has expanded since, reaching nearly 200 Florida locations in 2024.

The company’s name comes from the Ojibwe word for snow goose, but its logo features a Canadian goose.
