City Council candidate Dave Welch unseated Vice Mayor Chris Thompson 79-74 in the city’s April 8 municipal election.
Welch said he campaigned for effective development and management of the city’s airport and preserving the area’s lakes.
He said that as he spoke to voters, they were much more interested in the water bodies than the 2,000-acre airfield which straddles Bradford and Clay counties. He added that he hoped to raise public awareness of the airport’s importance to the community.
