STARKE — Representatives of Winn-Dixie will appear before Starke’s Board of Adjustment Monday seeking permission to open a liquor store.

An attorney for Belco Enterprises submitted an application for  a special exception to permit a package liquor store within a Community Commercial zoning district.

Package stores sell alcoholic beverages for offsite consumption.

According to the application, the store will be located immediately adjacent to the grocery store.  There will be a separate entrance added for shoppers to access the package store.

No other exterior changes will be visible, according to the applicant. The store itself will be less than 1,600 square feet. New signage is not planned, although the existing signage may one day be updated to reference the package store.

The public hearing for the special exception is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at Starke City Hall.
