Young drives in 4 runs in Tigers’ 12-5 victory

Tamia Young hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs total in the Union County High School softball team’s 12-5 win over visiting Chiefland on April 11.

The Tigers scored three runs each in the first and second innings. Angela Tucker hit an RBI single and scored on a steal of home in the first, which also included an RBI single by Campbell Webb. In the second, Young and Leah Clark hit RBI singles, while Leigh Ann Dicks drove in a run on a ground out.

Young, who went 2 for 2, hit a 2-2 pitch over the fence in center field in the sixth, scoring Hannah Rivera, who doubled, and Clark, who was hit by a pitch.

Rivera, who also hit a triple, went 2 for 2, while Tucker went 3 for 5.

Webb finished with two RBI, while Clark, Dicks, Tucker and Hayley Burke each had one.

Lily Neal pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and striking out three.

Union hosts Branford on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. and travels to play Santa Fe on Monday, April 24, at 7 p.m.

Branford is ranked second in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Class 1A power poll, while Santa Fe is the 19th-ranked team in 3A.
