Chalil Cummings recorded a double-double, but the Bradford High School boys basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 46-40 loss to visiting Trenton on Jan. 22.
The Tornadoes (8-8) held a nine-point lead before being outscored 22-7 in the fourth quarter.
Cummings had 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists.
Shayne Davis just missed scoring in double figures with nine points.
Robbie Simmons-Godwin, who scored five points, grabbed 10 rebounds, while Keith Ardley, who scored six points, dished out three assists.
Following a 62-26 win over Keystone Heights on Jan. 17 (which was covered in the Jan. 20 issue of the Telegraph-Times-Monitor), Bradford recorded its second win over fellow Class 1A team Newberry in a week. The Panthers were ranked number one going into the first game (a 56-51 BHS win on Jan. 11) and still ranked number one going into the second, which the Tornadoes won 46-41 on Jan. 18 in Newberry.
Bradford overcame a six-point halftime deficit and took a 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Jontez Williams and Simmons-Godwin scored 11 and nine points, respectively, with Williams also recording six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Amari Jones and Dae’Jon Shanks had seven and six points, respectively, while Cummings and Davis each scored four. Sincere Hankerson and Torin Brazell added three and two points, respectively.
Cummings had three assists, while Jones had five steals.
On Jan. 19, Bradford got 14 points from Williams in a 53-44 win over visiting Wildwood.
Cummings and Simmons-Godwin scored nine and eight points, respectively, while Shanks and Hunter Crawford each had seven. Jones had six points, while Hankerson added two.
Simmons-Godwin led the team in rebounds with eight, while Cummings had six.
Jones and Shanks recorded four and three assists, respectively.
Bradford travels to play Gainesville on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. and will travel to play Oakleaf on Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. The Tornadoes host North Marion on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
