UCHS boys snap 4-game skid, win 3 in a row on the road

Cole Andersen-Davis posted a double-double for the Union County High School boys basketball team, which defeated host Baker County 57-53 on Jan. 28.

Andersen-Davis led the Tigers with 17 points, while Thomas Williams and Curran Webb scored 14 and 11, respectively. Andersen-Davis and Webb grabbed 10 and nine rebounds, respectively, while Williams had seven to go along with three assists.

Quinten Rawls had three assists as well to go along with five points.

Gavin Jenkins and Dee Williams each had four points, while Jay Cohen added two.

The Tigers (8-11) are on a current three-game winning streak, which began with a 52-45 win at Fort White on Jan. 25.

Union entered the game having lost four in a row, but ended that skid with the help of double-digit scoring by Jenkins (15 points), Thomas Williams (14 points) and Webb (10 points).

Webb finished with a double-double, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.

It was Andersen-Davis recording a double-double on Jan. 27 as the Tigers defeated host Bell 44-34.

Andersen-Davis scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Jenkins had 13 points, while Thomas Williams finished with five. Each player grabbed six rebounds.

Webb, who had eight rebounds, scored four points, while Cohen and Rawls each added three points.

Union played Keystone Heights this past Tuesday and will host Interlachen on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers then conclude the regular season with a home game against Middleburg on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

The District 6-1A tournament begins Tuesday, Feb. 8, hosted by Bell High School. Union, the sixth seed, will play third-seed Dixie County in a quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8. If the Tigers win, they’ll play second-seed Bell in a semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship game, which will be played Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.

Also playing in the tournament are top-seed Bradford, fourth-seed Fort White and fifth-seed Branford.
