Williams running for Bradford County Commission

The following is a paid announcement of intent to seek public office submitted by the candidate. Announcements may be sent to [email protected]. The deadline for all submissions is June 27 at 5 p.m.

My name is Mark Williams, and I am running for District 2, Bradford County Commissioner.

I moved to Lawtey with my parents and brothers in 1973, attending Bradford Middle School and Bradford High School, graduating in 1981. I completed four years of the sheet-metal apprenticeship program, graduating number one in my class.

In 1986, I became the supervisor of a shop in Palatka before starting what is now known as M&R Construction in 1993.

I have been in the construction business in Bradford County for more than 29 years.

In 2017, I became involved in another area of business as well with the opening of Dink’s Place Frozen Treats in historic, downtown Starke.

During my 29 years in the construction business, I have completed many building projects for the county. I have worked hand in hand in some way with just about every county department, such as solid waste, SHIP (State Housing Initiatives Partnership), supervisor of elections, tax collector and sheriff’s office, just to name a few. I am very aware of how they all function.

I have also been involved in county commission meetings. It is well known that I have been very vocal about the way things have been handled in recent years. Commissioners are responsible for each county department’s spending and are accountable to the people for that spending, which has exceeded the budget the past 12 years.

This must stop. We can no longer continue to spend money that we don’t have.

In attending plenty of commission meetings, I have heard people say, “We can’t continue to do this. We need to make a change.”

I agree. We need new leadership on the commission. That is why I am asking for your support for District 2 county commissioner.

Over the next few weeks, I look forward to meeting each of you to talk about your concerns as well as laying out my plan to make “Everything Better in Bradford.”
