Union County Public Library summer programs offer something for everyone.
Each summer children up to age 12 are invited to pick up a reading log and read for fun prizes. So far, the UC Library has handed out over 250 reading logs to area children. Teens are encouraged to read by playing “Teen Bingo” and earn cool prizes, including gift cards.
Families recently enjoyed the “Shark Attack” event at the library that included fun games, crafts, ocean displays and much more. Next on tap was the performance of Jiggleman, whose crazy antics kept the large audience of over 200 entertained and laughing.
The library also presented an online paint project where kids created glow-in-the-dark jellyfish paintings. The library is hosting an outdoor snow event on June 30th where children can play in “real” snow, enjoy snow cones, go ice fishing and lots more.
On July 21 the annual end of summer water party will be back with the giant water slide, lots of fun and games, as well as refreshments.
The library’s programs for children are made possible with funding from the New River Public Library Cooperative and the Florida Department of State Division of Library and Information Services. Coming up in July the library will offer both adult and teen painting programs, while the Senior Social Club (who meet on 1st and 4th Tuesdays at 10am) will be holding a Luau Party on July 26.
Union County Library’s summer programs rely on, not only the dedicated library staff, but many teen volunteers as well. The Junior Friends of the Library teen organization is comprised of UCHS students who help at library events, earn service hours and upon graduation are eligible for the JFOL scholarship.
