STARKE— Jack Edward Brown, 32, was sentenced to five years drug offender probation for the Dec. 5, 2021, offense of felony domestic battery by strangulation. The state dropped an additional charge of domestic battery.

According to an arrest report, Brown’s girlfriend told deputies she shot the 32-year-old after he continually beat her and thought he would kill her.

Deputies found Brown in a Hampton residence with a gunshot wound to the lower chest.

According to the victim, the defendant insisted on driving home after the couple had drinks at Fun Point and Whiskey River Saloon. The woman added that after Brown exceeded 100 mph on State Road 100 East, she threw a bucket of beer on his lap to force him to pull over and allow her to drive.

At that point, the defendant began to abuse the victim verbally. When the couple arrived home, Brown grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, choked her, and punched her in the face. The victim grabbed a handgun from a table when the defendant went outside. When placing it under a couch pillow where she intended to sleep, the defendant re-entered the residence and shouted: “I’m not (expletive deleted) done.”

As Brown approached the woman, she shot him.

The woman then ran next door to call 911 and returned to the defendant to render first aid, however, Brown refused her assistance.

Deputies later interviewed Brown at a hospital. He told officers he didn’t remember anything from the incident.
