Keystone Heights High School got a second-place finish from Alex Addington and placed first in the team standings in winning the District 3-1A boys golf championship on Oct. 24 in Lake City.

It was the second straight district championship for Keystone, which finished the 18-hole event with a team score of 323. The Indians placed 23 strokes ahead of Lafayette and 42 strokes ahead of Madison County.

The top three teams earned the right to advance to the Region 1 meet, which will be held Monday, Oct. 31, at 8 a.m. at Marsh Landing Country Club in Jacksonville.

Union County placed seventh in the nine-team field with a score of 417, which left the Tigers trailing Taylor County (394), St. Joseph (411) and Branford (416).

Peniel Baptist was eighth with a score of 465, while Bradford was ninth with a score of 478.

The top three individuals not on region-qualifying teams will compete at the Region 1 meet as well. Union’s Caleb Zapp just missed out on qualifying with the fourth-best score among such individuals. He had one birdie and made par on six holes in shooting an 89, which left him tied for 11th overall. The three individual qualifiers were St. Joseph’s Matthew Webb (82), Branford’s Gavin Barnes (87) and Taylor County’s Jackson Taylor (88).

Keystone’s Addington had two birdies and made par on nine holes to finish with a score of 78. That left him trailing only Lafayette’s Trey Galbraith, who had a score of 75.

The Indians’ Connor Guy and Nic Binet each shot a 79 to tie for third. Guy had a birdie and made par on 10 holes, while Binet made par on 11 holes.

Addington and Binet, who competed in last year’s district meet, lowered their scores by three and nine strokes, respectively.

Keystone’s Ty Mitzel tied for seventh, making par on seven holes to finish with a score of 87.

The Tigers’ Caleb Ripplinger finished in a tie for 18th, making par on two holes and finishing with a score of 99, which was three strokes better than the score he shot last year.

Bradford’s Charles Zink and Keystone’s Shepherd Rozier each shot a 101 to finish in a tie for 20th. Zink made par on two holes, while Rozier made par on three.

Union’s Tucker Williams tied for 29th, making par on two holes and finishing with a score of 111. His teammate Colby Dukes made par on one hole and tied for 35th with a score of 118.

The Tornadoes’ Chase Halsey and Hayden Knight placed 38th and 39th, respectively, with scores of 122 and 125. Halsey had a birdie, while Knight made par on two holes.

Patrick Maxwell shot a 128 for Union, making par on one hole and tying for 40th.

Bradford’s Troy Smith shot a 42nd-place score of 130.
