STARKE— A 25-year-old Hampton man was sentenced to 364 days in jail for selling a stolen horse trailer.
Austin Lee Melville pleaded to dealing in stolen property and fraud.
According to a warrant affidavit, after the victim purchased the trailer and some tools from the defendant, she took the trailer to the Sunoco gas station in Hampton to put air in its tires. There, a man asked her what she was doing with another person’s property, adding that the trailer had been stored on his land.
The victim showed deputies a bill of sale for the trailer and tools, which she purchased for $300.
Melville had signed the document using the last name “Wilson”. However, several witnesses verified his identity and his true last name.
