The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office unveiled a new smartphone app through which users can conduct jail inmate searches, read news updates from the agency, and receive push notifications.

Undersheriff Brad Smith said that he and Sheriff Gordon Smith first saw the app while serving on the board of directors of the Florida Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

“They recently had an app developed for them,” the undersheriff said. “We saw how it was working, and the sheriff said he wanted to get it. So, right at the end of the last fiscal year, we had enough money available to go ahead and make the purchase.”

Smith added that assembling data for the new outreach and customizing the application took six months. He characterized the app as an upgraded version of the office’s website, BradfordSheriff.org.

“The way I described it to somebody the other day is that the website is like an eight-track cassette tape, and the phone app is like a CD,” he said.
