After participating in the Sept. 30 Randy Warren Invitational (see previous post), the Keystone Heights High School boys golf team placed second and third in a pair of matches.
The Indians finished nine strokes behind Lafayette with a second-place score of 169 in an Oct. 1 match at Lake City’s Quail Heights Country Club. Branford was third, finishing 18 strokes behind Keystone.
Jacob Beach and Landon Spence were part of a five-way tie for third individually. Each made par on four holes and finished with a score of 41. They were three strokes out of first place, with Lafayette’s Cooper Kerby shooting a 38 for medalist honors and Lafayette’s Hayden Thomas taking second with a score of 40.
Ty Mitzel shot a 43 to finish in a two-way tie for ninth. He made par on four holes.
Will Begue just missed out on the top 10 with a score of 44, which put him in a two-way tie for 11th. He made par on three holes.
Hunter Sheppard, who made par on two holes, shot a 48, while Jackson McDaniel, who made par on one hole, had a score of 52.
The Indians participated in a four-team match on Oct. 3 at Palatka Golf Club, finishing third with a score of 192.
Middleburg placed first with a score of 185, while Palatka was second, finishing four strokes behind the Broncos.
Penile Baptist had a fourth-place score of 203.
Beach took third for the Indians, making par on three holes and finishing with a score of 43.
Sheppard, who made par on one hole, shot 45 to finish in a two-way tie for fifth.
Begue, who had a birdie and made par on one hole, was in a two-way tie for 11th with a score of 51.
McDaniel, who made par on two holes, and Samuel Wacha, who made par on one hole, finished with scores of 53 and 54, respectively, while Spence shot a 56.
Keystone is currently sixth in the Florida 1A Public School Golf Championship standings. The top eight teams at the end of the season will play in the championship, which will be held Friday, Oct. 25, at Quail Heights Country Club in Lake City.
The Indians were ranked ahead of seventh-place Walton and eighth-place Chipley.
Ranked first through fifth are Frostproof, Fort Meade, Lafayette, Holmes County and Northview.
