Wayne Baker
Gordon Wayne Baker, 63, of Hampton passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Gainesville. Known to those closest to him as Wayne, he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and the lasting place he holds in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Britney, Miranda, and Megan; his cherished granddaughters; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; as well as his sister, Brandi; and several nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves behind many cousins, aunts and uncles who loved and supported him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Roark; his father, Gordon Baker; and his sister, Tina Clemons.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.
Though he will be deeply missed, Wayne’s memory will live on through the love, laughter, and cherished moments he shared with his family and loved ones. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4

Doley Hersey Sr.
Doley Hersey Sr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, after a courageous battle against cancer. Born July 5, 1941, in the serene town of Theressa, he spent his life embodying the values of loyalty, kindness, and a giving spirit, touching the lives of many who were fortunate to know him. He was the cherished son of Clyde and Geneva Hersey who, along with his five brothers, Raymond, John Wayne, Elbert, Dwight, and Donald, and sisters Margaret and Denise, predeceased him. Despite the heartaches of these losses, his life was a testament to the strength and resilience that characterized his family. For 32 years, Doley dedicated himself to his work as an electrical lineman at Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. in Keystone Heights. His commitment and work ethic were admired by colleagues and the community alike. Beyond his career, he was an active member of Bradford Baptist Church in Starke, where his faith and fellowship enriched the lives of many. Doley was an avid hunter, never missing the opening day, and he found joy tending to his vegetable garden. His bountiful harvests of corn and okra were shared with family, friends, doctors, and even strangers who he thought could use a little kindness. His passion for fox hunting earned him a rightful place in the Florida State Foxhunters Association Hall of Fame in 2022.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Douglass Hersey, whom he married on May 17, 1963, in Lake Butler. Together, they built a life rich with love and joy, raising four children, Tammy Hersey (Robbie) Caverly, Robin (Tommy) Hersey Hamilton, Doley “Bo” (Toni) Hersey Jr., and Huey Hersey. Doley’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Aubrey (Jessica) Caverly, Braxton (Morgan) Hamilton, and Madeline (Trent) Hersey Winghart; and great-grandchildren, Olivia “Livi” and Brooks Caverly; his brothers Lancin (Charlotte) Hersey and Dewitt (Helen) Hersey; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hersey of Palatka, Lois Hersey of Worthington Springs, and Peggy Hersey of Theressa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, who will deeply miss his warmth and generosity.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at HCA North Florida Hospital and Haven Hospice for their compassionate care during Doley’s illness. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may consider a contribution to Samaritan’s Purse, a cause close to his heart. In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. As we remember Doley, we hold onto the comforting thought that he is “Forever in our hearts,” where his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us all.

Willie McKenzie
Willie Lee McKenzie, 67, of Starke died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at his residence with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, David McKenzie.
Survivors are his wife, Laura Williamson McKenzie; sons, William Lee (Mae Lynn) McKenzie and Joseph (Dana) McKenzie; four brothers; four sisters; and extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held at Sampson City Church of God on Wednesday, Aug. 26. His family received friends prior to the service.

Wanda C. Hankerson Parker, 67, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026. She was of the Christian faith. Jane Riggs
Mrs. Jane Christie Riggs, 88, of Starke passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was born May 19, 1938, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Floyd and Garnet (Wilson) Christie, where she grew up in the Central Christian Church. Mrs. Riggs had a successful career as a sales manager at Sears Roebuck for over 30 years before retiring. Following her move back to Starke from St. Augustine, she began attending Madison Street Baptist Church, where she had been a former member. She lived a life dedicated to her family, always cherishing their joy and happiness, and loved having everyone at her house to celebrate countless birthdays and holidays together. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and was a loving matriarch to her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Riggs, this past June; and her siblings Anna Satterfield, Kathleen Pachuta, Alice Dye, Rose Sleeth, and William Christie.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, John (Kimberly) Riggs of Worthington Springs, Christie Williams of Starke, and Penny (Steve) Lamb of Gainesville; and a host of grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mom-Mom,” including Joy (Mark) Scott, Jay (Jennifer) Williams, Joshua (Crystal) Williams, John M. Riggs IV, Alexander Riggs, twins, Benjamin Riggs and (Bri) Michael Riggs, Rebecca (Collin) Mings, and Kyle Lamb; along with 11 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. Also left behind are many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Mr. Eddie Blalock officiating. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville 32606.
