Clay Electric Cooperative customers will see higher electric bills starting in June as the co-op raises its power cost adjustment to reflect rising wholesale power costs.
For a member who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, the increase will add about $5 to the monthly bill, bringing the typical total to roughly $155, the cooperative said. The actual impact will vary based on how much electricity each member uses.
The power cost adjustment, or PCA, is a line item on monthly bills that reflects changes in the cost of the wholesale power Clay Electric buys to serve its members. When those wholesale costs go up, the change is passed through to members on the PCA line.
“As a member-owned cooperative,” the utility said in its Power Line publication, “Clay Electric has no interest in higher costs beyond what is needed to serve members reliably. The co-op continues to monitor wholesale power markets closely and works to manage expenses on your behalf.”
The change takes effect with the June billing statements.
