Lack of drivers delaying restart of curbside recycling

GREEN COVE SPRINGS— Representatives of Waste Management told Clay County Commissioners during their March 8 meeting that the company is losing ground on recruiting and retaining drivers.

Because of a lack of drivers, the county suspended curbside recycling service last year, with the goal of restarting the pickups as soon as possible.

Waste Management representatives proposed several solutions to the problem, including converting to automatic side loading of recyclables, alternating weeks for recycling and yard waste pickups and making permanent its temporary citizen drop off for recyclables.

Commissioners did not take action after talking to Waste Management officials.
