Judith Bruning

Judith Bruning

Judith Diane “Judy” Bruning, 85, of Keystone Heights passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka. She was born Feb. 7, 1941, in Miami to Robert and Lillian (Frost) Norton.  She was a devoted member of Lake Area Bible Church in Melrose since 1995, where she actively served her church family and community. In 2008, she received her Advanced Diploma in Theology from Life Christian University. Her faith was central to her life, and she could often be found reading her Bible and attending ministry conferences.  Judy remained a stay-at-home mom until the 1980s, when she re-entered the workforce. She first worked for Calvary Ministries and then spent 10 years at the bankruptcy law firm of Lansing J. Roy. More recently, she was a caregiver with Comfort Keepers, where she passionately cared for others in their later stages of life. One of her greatest joys was working as cashier at the first Frozen Pelican in Keystone Heights with her daughter and son-in-law. She poured her heart into the family run business as the proudest supporter and biggest fan from day one.  In her younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding, painting, and barrel racing on Saturday nights at the Riding Club and was quite the tennis player. She even made a memorable splash in the ’80s by swimming a remarkable 3 miles in Lake Geneva, coming in second place. Judy lived a truly Spirit-led life, completely anchored by her faith in God and filled with his agape love. She was a devoted student of scripture and a mighty prayer warrior, constantly interceding for others, journaling, writing down prophecies, and deeply studying the Word. Her absolute favorite topic of conversation was salvation, the Holy Spirit, the joy of Jesus and the promise of Heaven. That heavenly perspective fueled her earthly purpose. She loved helping people navigate the practical challenges of their daily lives. She possessed a rare maternal grace that extended far beyond her own children, acting as a spiritual mother to many. A natural peacemaker, she always chose to champion the truth and always asked “does it line up with the Word?” She loved her family with a devotion that mirrors Christ’s love and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of unconditional love and faithful service.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Laura Bruning Densmore; and brothers, Larry Norton and Glenn Norton.

Judy leaves behind her children, Lisa Bruning (Troy) Stephens of Melrose, and Karl (Jackie) Bruning of Plainfield, Illinois; along with her brother, Brett Norton of Keystone Heights; and son-in-law Eric Densmore of Anthony. She was lovingly called “JuJu” by her grandchildren, Ava Densmore, Adysen Stephens, Colton Densmore and Wyatt Bruning.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lake Area Bible Church in memory of Judy and the life she lived ministering to others.

Arrangements are under the care of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home, 340 E. Walker Drive, Keystone Heights 32656. 352- 473-3176. www.jonesgallagherfh.com

Daina Smith

Daina Smith

With hearts that are forever changed, we announce the passing of our beloved Daina Mae “Peep” Smith, who left this world on Friday, July 3, 2026, at just 17 years old. Born Aug. 6, 2008, Daina lived in Lake Butler, where she filled the lives of those around her with laughter, love, and a personality that could never be forgotten. She was sweet, until you made her not be, and anyone who knew her smiled at that truth. Beneath her feisty spirit was a heart bigger than words can describe. She had a fire in her spirit, a quick wit, and a heart that loved fiercely. She found joy in (annoyingly loud) music, books, and side questing in Shaqueefa. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. Whether she was laughing with friends, singing along to her favorite songs, or simply being her unapologetic self, she made life brighter for the people around her. What people will remember most, though, is her heart. Daina would give you the very last thing she had if she thought it would make you smile. She loved deeply, cared without hesitation, and never wanted to see someone hurting. Her generosity, loyalty, and beautiful spirit touched more lives than she will ever know. She was preceded in death by her father, Cedric Smith; grandparents, Connie Berles, John Berles, and Sharon Presley; and cousins, Ashley Plotts and David Jr.

Daina is survived by her loving mother, Crystal Smith; her brother, Branden Smith; grandparents, Deborah Oakes, Timothy and Judy Smith; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who became family. Each of them carries a piece of her in their hearts. Seventeen years could never be enough. Though our hearts ache with the loss of her, we are grateful for every laugh, every hug, every memory, and every moment we were blessed to share with Peep. She leaves behind a love that cannot be measured and a space that can never be filled. We will miss her every day, but we will carry her with us always, in every song that reminds us of her, every story that makes us laugh, and every act of kindness done in her memory.

Family, friends, and all who knew Daina are invited to pay their respects and support one another at a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 10, at First Baptist Church of Lake Butler, beginning at 6 p.m. My beautiful PeepaPie, you were loved beyond words, and you will be missed beyond measure. Until we meet again, you will forever remain in our hearts. I love YOU. All the way to the moon and the stars and the sun. And all the way back.
