Harold Davis

Harold Kenneth Davis, 92, of Starke passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, at Solaris Healthcare in Lake City. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on Aug. 13, 1933, to the late Harry K. Davis and Myrtle Gooding Davis. He was raised in South Carolina and relocated to Jacksonville in the early 1940s. Shortly thereafter, his family made Bradford County their home, where he remained a lifelong resident. After graduating from Bradford High School, he continued his education at the University of Florida, where he proudly earned his associate’s degree before joining the United States Army. He served honorably from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. Following his military service, he began a career in the insurance profession with Independent Life Insurance Company, where he helped others plan for their futures. During this time, he met his best friend and lifelong companion, Sandra Kay Moore. They were happily married on Oct. 30, 1965, and shared 60 wonderful years together, raising two children and building a family that grew to include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. After his years providing insurance, Harold enjoyed a long and successful career in banking, culminating with his role at Gainesville Mortgage, where he worked as a mortgage broker for more than 20 years. He was a true jack-of-all-trades and was affectionately known by family and friends as “Mr. Fix It.” Having learned from his father, an electrician, he developed exceptional skills as a handyman. He generously shared his talents in plumbing, electrical work, air conditioning, and woodworking. He especially took pride in crafting banisters for family homes, a trade he truly enjoyed. He was a longtime member of the American Legion in Starke and enjoyed participating on their baseball team. Harold found great fulfillment in giving back to others, particularly through working with youth. He coached local softball for many years, forming lasting bonds and meaningful relationships along the way. In his free time, he cherished the peacefulness of the outdoors, especially the calm of fishing, while always enjoying the thrill of reeling in the next big catch. He was also an avid Florida Gator fan who took great pride in cheering on his team, but more than anything, he was a family man who cherished time with his family. Harold was a man of honor and patriotism whose greatest joy came from helping others, a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randall Davis; and sister-in-law, Ginger Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra Moore Davis of Starke; children, Tracy (Joe) Reichert and Harold Kenneth (Renee’) Davis II, both of Starke; grandchildren, Hunter (Amber) Reichert, Shelby (Scott) Brushingham, Hailey Reichert, and Harrison Davis; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Andi, Raelyn, and Colbi; along with several extended family members and friends.

Colin Halle

Colin Eugene Halle was born on Feb. 7, 1940, in Lake Butler, to Eugene C. Halle and Gertrude Parrish Halle. He graduated from Union County High School in 1958 and pursued a football scholarship at the University of Florida. That was cut short due to marriage to his high school sweetheart and son on the way. He then pursued a career with the Florida Department of Corrections and some years later, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He devoted nearly four decades of his life to the Department of Corrections, building an extraordinary career marked by integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice. He also served six and a half years on the Criminal Justice Standards Committee, consistently upholding the highest standards of professionalism and community safety. A steadfast PBA representative for over 20 years, Colin championed the rights and recognition of correctional officers. His leadership was instrumental in the groundbreaking “Rally to Tallahassee,” a movement that sought to elevate correctional officers to the status of law enforcement officers. His advocacy helped pave the way for the Florida Department of Corrections to transition under the FDLE umbrella, aligning FDC staff with recognized law enforcement standards. He was also a skilled negotiator and reformer, playing a key role in restoring the 3.5% retirement benefit for correctional officers, an achievement that continues to support those who dedicate their lives to the correctional system. During his service at the demanding “Rock” facility within Union Correctional Institution, he demonstrated remarkable resilience. As both a correctional officer and later a correctional officer sergeant, he often oversaw a unit of only three officers supervising 1,200 inmates. His calm under pressure and steady leadership in such an intense environment reflected his exceptional character and strength. He retired as a Major in 2006. Following his distinguished DOC career, he continued serving his community with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office for an additional eight years, retiring at the age of 75. Yet Colin’s professional accomplishments were only part of who he was. He was a gifted storyteller; a man whose vibrant personality filled every room he entered. His generous heart, his humor, and his deep love for his family made him someone people admired and cherished. To know Colin was to know kindness, loyalty, and a life lived with purpose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Gertrude Halle; brothers, Holland Halle and Howell Halle; son, Colin Eugene Halle Jr.; and grandson, Colby Blair Harrison.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Boles Halle; sons, Gregory H. (Karol) Halle, Morgan J. (Heather) Halle, and Derek C. (Shara) Halle; and daughters, Dawn M. (Wayne) Cox and Crystal E. (Lance) Hollingsworth. His 17 grandchildren will forever treasure the stories shared by their “Pappaw,” as will his 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home on Monday, May 4. A funeral service followed on Tuesday, May 5, also at the funeral home. Colin was laid to rest at Elzey Chapel Cemetery with military and DOC honors. Colin’s legacy is one of service, courage, and love. His influence will continue to echo through the lives he touched, the officers he championed, and the family he adored. His memory will remain a blessing for generations to come.
