LAKE BUTLER—The year’s annual Veterans Day observance will be held on Nov. 10 in the auditorium at Union County High School at 9 a.m. The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Union County students will also view the program, either by attending the program or watching a live broadcast of it on television in their classrooms.
The Union County High School Band will present the musical parts of the program, playing before the program begins and also as a part of the program. The cadets from Union County High School JROTC will present the colors and help out in other ways throughout the event. UCHS teacher Tammy Sulsona will offer a short lesson in “Why We Celebrate Veterans Day” as part of the program.
The guest speaker of the event is already well known in Union County, especially at UCHS. Command Sergeant Major Kenneth M. North (Ret.) served as an Army JROTC instructor in the UCHS JROTC program from 2012 until 2019 and was named the 2019 Teacher of the Year for the Union County School District. His career in the Army began in 1989 and lasted until his retirement from active duty in early 2012. He has been awarded numerous decorations for his service.
After the event at UCHS, everyone is invited to the Lake Butler VFW Post for a free Veterans Day lunch.
